WELCOME TO THE CLARE GOLF COURSE GUIDE

The Official Web Page for the Battle of Liscannor
The 3 Breens & 1 Slatts Pitch and Putt
Friday 8th August 2008

VENUE :

Some Pitch and Putt Club in Liscannor

THE HISTORY :
This Match Up is the first time these 4 have faced each other. Previous meeting have included Seamus & Niall Breen with Eoin Slatts in some epic games in Galway, Kerry, Clare and Donegal. It's been incredibly tense at times with both Niall & Seamus sustaining facial injuries in Tralee & Furbo respectively only for Eoin to get injured when the other two teamed up to organise Declan Broderick to drive like a maniac on the Bumper Cars in Salthill.
There were 2 main courses that the battles took place in and they were Daly's in Mullach and the course near Abbot's in Donegal Town. Daly's of course is a "World Renowned"(the course may not be actually world renowned, I could be actually using it to heighten our importance & it may actually have been a glorified cabbage patch).
The big 3 moved onto the big courses and have met in Murvagh in Donegal once or twice & joining Barry "Tiger" Breen & Pat "Young Jazzer" Slattery in Westport while on holiday in Louisburgh.
After a few years of a sebatical the battle has recommenced. This time with one addition, young Brendan Breen fresh from a relatively succesful year on the Gaelic Football front decided to join the 3 buckos. He's met Niall & Seamus on the pitch & putt course before but results are sketchy and untalked about but last year he faced Eoin & Padraig Slattery in the Halfway House in Ennis and was taught a lesson by the hometown team.
The stage was set.

THE ROUND :
Historically the rounds are treated with a deal of serious competition, respect and good sportsmanship between the 3 older players but the entrance of the young whippersnapper threw this game into a battle of concentration. On the first Brendan Breen decided to incredibly break wind just as Seamus was hitting his tee shot. Needless to say the ball was further away from the green than when he hit the ball. Seamus took a few holes to get his rhythm during this Niall and Eoin broke away and Brendan seemed slightly overawed playing with these world renowned exponents of the sport. By the back 9 Seamus had hit top gear, he had the off putting coughs and mentions of different members of the Campbell family down to a tee and his game was even better as he brought Eoin's lead back to 1 point with 5 pars in a row. A turning point in this is a simple birdie putt that he missed that opened the door for Slattery who went on a late run to clinch the win with Seamus 2nd, "Party Boy" Niall came 3rd and Brendan came 4th disputing a score from earlier saying that he had scored a par which he didn't, either way, it wouldn't make a difference. Anyway, all had a great day out and as the standard improves there may be a trip to a proper golf course although whether a course will take us is another story and that story will be broadcast exclusively on the site.
