HOLE BY HOLE GUIDE
HOLE 11
BACK TEES DISTANCE : 314 YDS
CLUB TEES DISTANCE : 304 YDS
LADIES TEES DISTANCE : 290 YDS
PAR : 4
SI : 17
WATER :
None
OUT OF BOUNDS :
Go over the trees on the left and you'll be heading up the Lahinch Road bypass or part of the "Fat Mile" as it's known to the locals. Stay away from the houses at the back of the green also. I'm sure the residents wouldn't be happy with pitch marks on their lawn.
BUNKERS :
There's one to the right of the green. A nice blind one. You won't be getting your bucket and spade out here until you get over the hill and you realise what you though was a half decent shot has ended up in the sand.
TREES :
All the way up the left. There's a few in the driving line on the right that tighten it up but there's not that many. Once you're up to the green it's trees galore out the back so steer well clear.
TEE SHOT :
Looking at it from the box you could be forgiven for thinking that this is going to be a nightmare drive but don't worry too much here. The green isn't too far over the hill so you can take it easy here or if you fancy a blast as long as you keep it out of the trees you should be left with a shot to the green. There's plenty space here but make sure to take into account that it's all uphill and at the top of the hill the hole doglegs right.
APPROACH SHOT :
The difficulty here depends on the distance you're attacking from. There are two aspects to the approach to be wary of. There's a bunker mid/front right and a fairly steep dropoff to the left and back left. Miss it short rather than face a shot from down that hill.
GREEN OVERVIEW :
As if to emphasise there's a severe drop off the left hand side there's a slope across the green that flows towards the valley. It's not severe but it certainly comes into equations here.
OVERALL TIPS :
As you stand on the tee use the group of trees on the right hand side of the fairway as a guide. Try to aim between the centre of the fairway and the trees and you should be in good shape or use this as a guide to how you'll draw/fade (hook/slice for me) the ball. Make sure to take into account the steep hill you face. You need to get as close to the crest as you can in order to get a view of where your second shot is going. Once you're aiming up your green bound shot make sure to avoid the bunker and anwhere left of the green. Escape routes can be found short or long right of the green. Once you're on the green have a close look at where the ball is breaking but barring a lack of concentration you should be looking at a two putter. It's a par hole if played ok. It's not the hardest if played with a modicum of sensibility.
