BUNKERS :
Oh yes, welcome to the hole that your bucket and spade are the order of the day. There are 3 fairway bunkers. One positioned on the right hand side and two on the left. They are nicely positioned to test those that stray offline slightly but these aren't the ones that you will lose sleep over. Travel a few hundreds yards up the fairway and you'll see the green. Before you see that you'll see three deep bunkers that once viewed will wake you up at night in a cold sweat. If your ball is heading towards these beauties get your rosary beads out and pray for a landing in the spinach as if you land in the fawn colored traps you're in some serious bother.
TREES :
There's not too many here. A handful on the right and one or two on the left with a few at the back of the green. The trees aren't what you have to worry about here but at the same time don't get too complacent.
TEE SHOT :
Distance here is key. You have to give this drive a fair bit of welly. The fairway is relatively wide but there are a few nicely positioned sand traps that will tighten your shot up a bit. In order to get a decent opportunity of getting something out of this hole you need to hit this with all you've got or else you could be laying up or hoping for something they write about in fantasy novels.
APPROACH SHOT :
This really depends on how far away from the hole you are. If you are a wood or long iron range away from the hole the percentage play would be to stay safe and lay up. If you take on the bunkers and lose you will be in some serious bother. If you fancy living life on the wild side then go ahead but you need to get the yardage spot on. Fortunately the green is relatively receptive to high shots in so if you can bring it in from the thin air then you should be in good shape. Due to the lack of an entrance to the green as a result of those nasty bunkers don't even think of chasing the ball up onto the green.
GREEN OVERVIEW :
The green slopes downhill from the back left as you are looking at it from the fairway to the front left. It's a nice slope that will aid you in your approach but act as a nasty hindrance to any putts. This is a tricky green to end a very difficult hole.
OVERALL TIPS :
This hole is heavily dependant on your tee shot. How that is played could turn this par 4 into a par 5 for you. You need to get as much distance as you can off the tee. Accuracy isn't overly key here as long as you have a relatively clear view and you don't get beached in the sand. If you can reach the green with a high shot in two then have a crack otherwise it might be wise to lay up. The bunkers in front of the green are perilous and act as a serious deterrent for those who are thinking of taking a risk with a long iron or a wood. There's little or no run on as you approach the green so take that out of your mind unless you plan a banana shot that Roberto Carlos would be proud of. Take advantage of the steep enough green face. You can land it on the back section and should you wish to spin it the ball will travel should the pin position be based in the front portion. Be wary of the slopes on the green for the putts however and if you can grab a par out of this take a picture and write to your friends telling them of your feat.
